PokéBonk moves: 26 attack shapes and how they scale

Every move uses one attack shape, and the shape decides what can improve it. These are the 26 base shapes from the v0.8.89 move table.

How to read a move shape

A move is not just “a Fire move” or “a Water move”. In the move table it also points at a shape such as Projectile, Strike, Beam, Vortex, Nova, Trap or Aura. That shape supplies the base damage, cooldown, projectile count, area, speed and duration before the individual move is applied.

Scaling tags used in the table
TagWhat it means
damageThe move’s damage value.
cooldownHow quickly the move recharges.
projectilesThe number of projectiles or hits the shape can add.
areaRadius, width or length of the hit.
projectile speedHow fast a travelling projectile moves.
durationHow long a placed effect or status remains.
pierce / bounce / crit / status chanceThe remaining shape-specific tags shown by the table.

A shape’s base values are a template. The actual move you equip has its own power, cooldown, type and upgrade cards. This page is about the shape layer, not a ranking of individual moves.

All 26 attack shapes

The values below are the shape defaults from the v0.8.89 table: base damage, cooldown in seconds, count, area, speed and duration. “Scales with” is the exact tag list stored on that shape.

Why the shape matters more than the label

Projectile speed is meaningful on Projectile, Burst, Homing and other travelling shapes. It is listed as a scaling tag on those rows. Cone, Nova, Strike and Spin do not list projectile speed, so a projectile-speed roll does not improve the shape itself. The same logic applies to duration: it only appears on shapes that have a duration value.

This is also why two moves of the same type can want different support. A Water projectile and a Water beam are both Water, but one is a travelling hit and the other is a piercing beam. Build around the shape first, then the type.

Damage shapes

Projectile, Strike, Beam, Nova and Meteor are the direct-damage end. Their damage and cooldown tags are what an attack build reads first.

Field shapes

Vortex, Trap, Trail and Aura leave something on the field. Their duration and area tags matter more than a single hit.

Utility shapes

Weather and Booster deal 0 base damage. Their entries only list cooldown and duration; they are not damage moves.

Special shapes

Random and Fusion are their own entries. Fusion is not a normal move roll: it is the result of Bill’s Machine combining two moves.

Move slots and move levels

A new partner starts with 3 move slots. The Lab’s 4th move upgrade costs 1,275 Stardust and unlocks the fourth. A move can normally reach level 8; the TM Case raises that cap by 2 to level 10 and raises a fusion from ★5 to ★6.

The level-up screen can offer a new move or an upgrade to a move you already carry. Those are different decisions: a new move adds a shape to your build, while a move level improves the move already in a slot. The slot count is the hard limit; a full set of slots means you cannot add another move until you free one.

Questions people also ask

How many move shapes does PokéBonk use?

The v0.8.89 move table uses 26 attack shapes, from Projectile and Strike to Weather, Booster, Random and Fusion. Each move points at one shape; the shape sets its base damage, cooldown, area and which stats can improve it.

Do type and move shape do the same thing?

No. Type controls effectiveness and same-type damage; shape controls how the hit is delivered and which scaling tags apply. A Water projectile and a Fire projectile share the Projectile shape; a Water beam and a Fire beam share Beam. The shape decides whether projectile speed or duration can affect it.

How many move slots can I have?

A new partner starts with 3 move slots. The Lab’s 4th move upgrade costs 1,275 Stardust and unlocks the fourth. Move slots are separate from the number of move choices the game offers on level-up.

What is the maximum move level?

A normal move can reach level 8. The TM Case item raises the cap by 2, to level 10, and also raises a fusion from ★5 to ★6. The move table’s base numbers are not the values of every individual move at every level.
