PokeBonk Classic vs Survival
Choose Classic to learn a zone-based run; choose Survival to explore the endless format. These are different run structures, not character tiers.
Two modes, two ways to read progress
| Question | Classic | Survival |
|---|---|---|
| Run structure | Zones, guardians and a shrine | Endless progression and milestones |
| Useful HUD cues | Zone and countdown | Elapsed time and phase |
| First experiment | Learn one zone at a time | Observe how choices develop over time |

Try Classic first if…
You want a bounded opening goal: recognize the zone, keep moving and understand what ends a stage. This is an editorial starting point, not a measured claim that Classic is easier.
- Use the same partner, region and difficulty while learning.
- Watch the zone indicator and timer before opening more menus.
- After the run, note which control or upgrade choice confused you.
Try Survival if…
You want to follow an ongoing run and see how your choices accumulate. Set your own stopping point; an endless format is not a promise of an unlimited stable session.
- Read the mode description before starting.
- Track health, phase and the next visible milestone.
- Keep the first experiment comparable to your Classic attempt.
Keep difficulty separate from mode
Changing the mode and difficulty together makes it harder to tell what changed. For your own comparison, hold everything else constant. We have not measured clear times, rewards or Stardust per minute across these modes.

Checked directly in the main menu and preparation screen on v0.8.90, 3 November 2026: Play is labeled Classic, Survival is labeled Endless, and preparation offers both formats. The screenshot above is our own capture. This agrees with PokeBonk.org’s mode notes, a third-party reference used as a consistency check. See the current preparation screen at the official game before relying on old menu labels. We played a short solo Classic opening; Survival gameplay and comparative rewards were not tested.
